What Happens After a Complaint is Filed?

When a concern is reported about a property in Ogden City, a Code Services Officer will first verify whether a code violation exists. If a violation is confirmed, we will contact the property owner and begin the compliance process.

Because code enforcement involves private property, state law requires that property owners be given due process. Once notified, owners are provided 15 days to correct the violation. If the issue is not resolved within that timeframe, a citation may be issued, and an additional 15 days are granted for compliance.

If sufficient progress is still not made, Ogden City may take action to clean up the property through our abatement process, with the costs charged to the property owner. In some cases, if abatement is not possible, resolving the violation can take longer.

We understand that these situations can be frustrating and we share your desire for a timely resolution. Please feel free to contact our office with questions, concerns, or to check on the status of a complaint. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to keep Ogden City a safe and welcoming community.

Sincerely,

Ogden City Code Services
