Community engagement continues around revitalization efforts for Ogden’s iconic Union Station, with another open house scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, at 5:30 p.m. inside the station’s Browning Theater.
In 2023, Ogden City’s Community and Economic Development Division began monthly meetings to create direct, ongoing dialogue with residents as elements of the downtown general plan, known as MAKE Ogden, moved forward. Since then, all 29 of those meetings have taken place inside Union Station, as it continues to have the important role of being the city’s gathering place.
Originally built as a railroad hub that helped shape Ogden’s growth and character, Union Station has long served as a gateway for linking people to jobs, commerce and one another. City leaders and planners are now again looking to the station as a central piece of Ogden’s future.
The 30th MAKE Ogden meeting will focus on Union Station Neighborhood and will feature several design concepts exploring the area’s “public realm”—the spaces around and between building, including streets, squares, walkways and parks. These areas help define quality neighborhoods by supporting safe movement, encouraging gathering and fostering connections to the places people live and work.
Design Workshop, the consulting firm partnered with the city on the neighborhood revitalization, will be present to share concepts and gather community feedback.
“Union Station is one of Ogden’s most important historic places, and as we plan for its future, community input matters,” said Ogden City’s Deputy Chief Administration Officer, Taylor Nielsen. “We invite residents, partners and stakeholders to join us at our open house on January 28 to learn where the project stands, ask questions, and share their perspective as we work to responsibly restore and adapt this landmark for the long term.”
The Jan. 28 meeting continues the years of collaboration among Ogden City’s Union Station Partners, including J. Fisher Companies, Utah Transit Authority and Ogden residents, with the goal of ensuring the station’s next chapter reflects both its historic legacy and the community’s needs.
Looking ahead, the next MAKE Ogden open house on Feb. 25 will shift the conversation from individual neighborhoods to citywide planning, with a focus on ZONE Ogden, the process to adopt a Unified Development Code.
